Starting Out the New Year with Work and Fun!
We had a great start to 2025 kicking off with a fun Staff Winter Weekend. Members of the 2024 staff came to camp to enjoy meals, winter walks, checks on our many projects, and time together. Many of them have already signed their contracts to return in 2025! Our maintenance staff continues to be busy working on a variety of projects. As you can see from photos below, the Little Wohelo dining hall is looking great with the new timber framing and we’re about to start work on our Lewa Dock restoration. Follow along with the projects on our Instagram and Facebook pages.

Alumnae Spotlight: Annie Riley
Annie Riley (1996-2001, 2005, 2008, 2011) is a familiar face to the Wohelo community – a longtime camper, counselor, and camp cheerleader. She often reflects on the valuable lessons she learned at camp and how they’ve shaped her career. These days, Annie embraces the spirit of her 1997 self: “That was my best summer ever—I felt unstoppable!” Living in Mallards with great friends and a supportive counselor, she earned her Frog and took bold chances. Looking back on her career, she wishes she had channeled that fearless 1997 Annie sooner. Camp provided a nurturing environment where trying new things felt easy: “You don’t know how to dive? Who cares! Just head to diving and give it a shot.” In the real world, she found it tougher to take those risks without a similar support system. With her new venture, she’s determined to embody that fearless spirit. Annie’s advice? “If there’s something you want to try, go for it—just start!”
Annie currently divides her time between New York and Colorado, building her company, Fort Light, which supports non-founder leaders and managers in startups. Fort Light offers group coaching, valuable content, and a vibrant community. Annie recently launched a new podcast, Best Manager Ever. Listen wherever you get your podcasts. In a fun camp connection, Annie’s journey into podcasting began when Jamie Grenney, alumna Allison Grenney’s brother, invited her to host his podcast, Who Got Me Here?
Annie and her mom often chat about the invaluable lesson from camp: that you are valued for who you are as a person. That authenticity, and the ability to be goofy, is what she cherishes most about her camp experience. Having experienced this sense of acceptance is a rare gift. Annie fondly remembers pushing herself beyond her limits and celebrating achievements, whether earning her Able or completing the Witch swim test. Camp provided a supportive environment where she could take risks and overcome self-doubt, reinforcing the belief that she could achieve more than she thought possible.
After spending 12 years in San Francisco, Annie felt disconnected from camp. Participating in the 2021 Wohelobration, winter gatherings, and Raking Weekend deepened her bond with a place filled with cherished memories. “I was both surprised and happy by how effortlessly I slipped back into the camp community. I realized that, just like with my career, I should have done it much sooner!” We’re excited to welcome Annie and many other alumnae back for the 2025 Wohelobration, where we’ll celebrate shared memories and strengthen our ties.
