Peep Week

We will not be offering Peep Week for 2018. We hope that families will consider the three and a half week session as a way to ease into the Wohelo experience. While Peep Week is a fun introduction to the grounds and the activities, it does not offer the real Wohelo experience upon which we prides ourselves. We strive to create an experience that creates confident, independent, and problem solving campers.

THE VALUE OF SEVEN WEEKS

A full seven weeks provides the best Wohelo experience.  During the first several weeks, campers are settling into camp life, getting to know the schedule and one another, and just beginning to learn new skills in activities. Then the real learning begins: learning how to work with your cabin mates to keep your cabin clean or plan a surprise for your counselor, learning how to paddle a canoe with a friend by listening to one another, learning how thoughtfulness builds as relationships deepen throughout the summer. Half session campers are just starting to get into this amazing groove of living and working together as a team in a thoughtful and cooperative way when it’s time for them to depart.  The learning that is so unique to our camping experience happens to a much higher degree for the girls who are with us for full session. The lifelong friendships that are formed in the full session are built upon this commitment to living and working together for seven weeks.

Do I need to purchase uniforms?
As the Peepers arrive and/or depart while camp is in session, it is best if each camper arrives in uniform.  So we recommend purchasing one blue and white striped shirt from Maine Camp Outfitters (brochure found in parent folder) and one pair of navy blue shorts (Soffe shorts work well) and bringing the other items on the packing list that you already own.  We have uniform shirts, shorts, red bathing suits and red fleece for Peepers to borrow for the week. If you would like to borrow uniforms, please fill out and return the Peep Week Uniform Rental form, which can be found in your parent folder.

Does my daughter need to bring a trunk?

Most full-session campers bring their belongings to camp in a trunk and use it for all of their summers at Wohelo.  Trunks are an easy way for campers to organize their belongings and trunks tend to be more resilient than luggage.  So if you have a trunk at home by all means have your Peeper pack in it.
However, if you don’t already have a trunk, no worries!  There is no need to purchase a trunk for Peep Week. A strong suitcase or an under-the-bed hard-sided storage box, certainly will work for a week.   When you do purchase a trunk it will be worth your while to invest in a quality one that will last multiple summers.

Does my daughter need to bring everything on the packing list even if she is only coming for Peeper Week?

We have modified the packing list for our Peepers.
