Happy June

Summer 2010 is almost here! This large group of Geese was trying to move into camp before you all arrive.  (They were a little upset that with all our bird names there was not a Goose Cabin to be found.) COOL FACTS –  as usual,  this summer we will have lots of campers whose mothers, grandmothers, great grandmothers and now great-great grandmothers attended Wohelo. 106 generation campers this summer, 40% of the camp had a direct descendent attend before them. 24 (12%)

Getting ready for Summer 2010

It has been a productive and beautiful May so far at Wohelo.   Davis and Rick redecking Lewa Dock Lewa and Boulders Cove can’t wait for all of you to arrive! Priscilla has been taking the occasional break from her intensive studies at Bates to help get camp ready.   Here trimming the apple trees at the Farmhouse. Mark and Quincy scouted the paddleboarding on Crooked River.   It was a great trip, but as many Crooked River Vetrans will appreciate,

Warm April in Maine

Dew covered webs and foggy Boulders Cove seem more like May and June than early April.   Good chance the lake will be quite a bit warmer this summer than usual. The Archery Field, Barn and Farmhouse look green and ready for the summer.  Notice the new Bluebird House that was just installed on the hill.   It was given to us by Camp Fire Girls to recognize Charlotte and Luther Halsey Gulick (more details two posts ago).   Below

March Wohelo Posting

Not much news from camp this month but we’ve got a couple neat history tid-bits and a historic camping video to watch.  Look for things to get hopping around here soon! Mount Washington is always impressive this time of year.   Scholarship donor plaques awaiting their Adirondack Chairs for us to enjoy this summer.  Newly refinished table at Little Wohelo Dining Hall.  Those posts are put in for the winter to hold up the roof with snow

Happy Olympic Presidential Valentines Week

Contrary to what you might think, we haven’t gotten any snow over the past month.  It has all fallen south of us.  Last night we got about 1/2 inch, the first snow of any sort in over three weeks, and it’s melting quickly.    This is the view across the lake to Mount Washington.  At least it still has snow on it. Six Bald Eagles spent some time in front of the Waterskiing Dock recently, right at the ice/water line. We just

Wohelo in February

Ice is coming in and out with the wind.  it freezes a bit when it’s calm and then the waves break it back up again. Sometimes you don’t need a Precision Weather Instrument to tell you it’s cold. I guess no one will be able to complain to Penny about a cold morning dip this summer. We are just finishing up our  Wohelo gatherings this winter.  We have had a great time seeing everyone and look

Spring at Wohelo?

Wohelo had some nice snowstorms in January. Rick Dodson (Amanda’s dad) helped us keep our roads cleared with the Big Red Truck. One day it snowed over 8 inches.   Little Camp Beach below looked like perfect white sand if you squint and thought warm. The Van Winkles made a snow shelter and camped out in it last Thursday night. and then it rained.  This is Tuesday, 5 days later. Poor snowman.  Scene below is untouched – he melted exactly this way.

January Wohelo Update

Hello Woheloites,  Mid-winter chilly here at Sebago Lake but we are all getting excited for Summer 2010.   It looks like a great group of campers and counselors already signed up and more coming in every day.   See all the names at the Wohelo 2010 page. The first skim of ice on the lake this morning, January 14th.   Almost all the other lakes in Maine are frozen already but Sebago is about the last to freeze because it is so big.
